How It Works
We're looking for Shark Weeks' biggest fans to show their love. The challenge is simple. From June 13th to July 1st, submit a 30 second video commercial promoting Shark Week any way you want (and feel free to get creative). Following this video submission phase, we will select the 16 best videos to compete in the 'Shark Week Tournament Bracket'. During this phase, videos will go head to head and the viewers will decide which videos move on to the next round and which videos are eliminated. The top two commercials will receive the ultimate prize-- airing on Discovery Channel from July 31-August 6th during Shark Week!
Phase I: Video Submission Phase (June 13 – July 1)
During this phase, please submit as many entries as you like. You must register in order to submit a video. This can be done by creating a new account or signing in with Facebook.
While we recommend shooting your video, saving it and uploading it from your hard drive, you may also submit a video through your webcam. Video quality tends to be superior when uploaded from your hard drive.
Feel free to be creative in creating your 30-second commercial, but please remember that videos cannot include the following:
- Profanity
- Nudity
- Copyrighted music/images
- Actual violence
Once your video has been submitted, the Discovery Channel will review all entries and determine if your video will be selected to the final tournament round which will consist of 16 videos.
Videos that make it to the final round of 16 will have the following characteristics:
- Videos must be 30 seconds or less. Any videos longer than 30 seconds will be cut off and judged only upon the first 30 seconds.
- Creativity
- Originality
- Relevance
- No one really getting eaten by shark
Phase II: The Finals (July 5th – July 28th)
During this phase the top 16 videos as selected by the Discovery Channel will go head to head as viewers determine which videos move on to the next round until only one remains.
Each user will be able to vote just once. We encourage you to seek votes for your video (and those videos that you support) in as many places as possible. The more votes you get, the more likely your video will move on to the next round.
Phase III: Shark Week (July 31st – August 7th)
During this phase, the top two videos will be made famous! These videos will be featured as real commercials during Shark Week programming.
If your video has prevailed in the final round of the bracket, you will be contacted by the Discovery Channel regarding the details of airing your commercial.
